Get Further into “Get Buried!”

James from Popheadwound.com asked me to write a little about the process of creating the song “Get Buried!”

He writes:
With its swooning back & forth boy/girl vocals, honeyed melodies, and slyly biting lyrics, “Get Buried!” might just be 2011’s quintessential indie-pop song. You hear sometimes about songwriters being overcome with inspiration and banging out tunes like this in 5 or 10 frenzied minutes. That wasn’t exactly the case for Chris Donlon of The Creepy Crawlies, who below expounds on the somewhat labored creative process behind this seriously re-playable jam:

Flashback: Kate plays the Organ

Kate on the Organ

We had to update the servers and consequently lost our old posts. Every once in a while I’ll be re-posting some old content. This is Kate practicing on the Hammond Organ, an instrument which uses “drawstrings,” which are basically levers you can push or pull, to change the tone of the sounds emitted when you play. We ended up using it quite a bit during the recording of our album.

THOSE WHO DIG:
This male-female duo has an organic, seamless interplay. They just sound good together, you know what I mean? The music has a pop surface which contrasts with a more subtle wall of sound. Like the two voices, it seems expertly blended.

YOUR MUSIC RADAR:
If you want a slow burning track that kills it, I’d dive into ‘Get Buried!’ by The Creepy Crawlies

STAGEDIVE (MALTA):
Not only are the songs here good but they have made me giddy with excitement…I’m a greedy reviewer and I want more! The album can’t come soon enough!

POPHEADWOUND:
The title track features playful, swooning back + forth boy/girl vocals, swirling sound effects, and some choice lines (“leave my body here on the shore/could be worse, could be nuclear war”).  It’s charmingly bummed-out indie-pop at its finest and a welcome return.

BASEMENT FEVER:
Love at first sight, or perhaps I should say first listen – 30 seconds into Get Buried by The Creepy Crawlies and it was pure adoration from then on in.
